Smart-UPS 2200 + NMC2 does 2 self tests.

I am a little stumped on this one. The UPS keeps doing 2 self tests a day apart instead of one.

I have a NMC2 installed (9631) with the 6.40 software.

I set it for 7 or 14 days and when it is due for a test it will complete one, then do another the next day.

Since I spotted this I disabled self test on the card and checked the UPS config via the panel and it was also disabled. Set it for a 14 day test and left it alone thinking it was sorted.

Saturday and today it did a self test and I have no idea why it does the 2nd?

From the logs

18.04.2016 10:30:14 Device UPS: RFC1628 MIB UPS test completed. 0x3603
18.04.2016 10:30:14 Device UPS: Self-Test passed. 0x0105

Any ideas?

Thanks.

That's what I recall with mine. If no tests are configured, you should still get one on a periodic basis to verify the battery is good to go when needed.

Hi,

What is the exact model and serial number of the Smart-UPS. You will find the information on the bar code sticker on the back the unit.

If the model is SMT2200 or SMX2200 what firmware version is the UPS running? You will find the UPS firmware information and the model and serial number in the NMC under About - UPS or from the LCD panel under the About menu.

Hi,

The self-test parameters are stored on the UPS so the issue is with the SMT2200.

The firmware is up-to-date so you could reset the unit

1) Turn off and unplug UPS from wall
2) Disconnect Battery
3) You may hear an audible "click" from the UPS.
4) Reconnect battery, plug unit back in the wall, and turn UPS back on

If that does not resolve the issue and the unit is under warranty you could request a replacement.

You could ignore the issue since it is cosmetic and running a self-test a day apart will not hurt the unit.

Another option is to set the UPS to not run an automatic self-test and run the test manually every 2 weeks.

I have set it to "UPS Startup and every 7 Days since last test" and will see what happens in a week, if it does it again I will brain dead the unit and try it again.

Thanks Bill.

Gareth.

I owned an SMT3000 that was on the 7.1 firmware that was doing the same thing.  This was the hardware revision level that could not be updated to the version 8.x firmware.  There is a known hardware issue with earlier revision units that will, indeed, execute a self-test even when one is not configured or, in your case, two if you configure one test.

Being OCD, I replaced my unit, but if I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't care.

Thanks Joe, I have now set it to do one at startup  as it still  did 2. I assume it will throw in a regular  extra one for the fun of it. I can live with this if it does as I expect.
