Smart UPS 2200 (NEW!) not found - Failed to apply profile

Hello,

I recently replaced a faulty (aged) Smart UPS 1500 for a new Smart UPS 2200. The first day it was working fine. The next day the UPS was bleebing and communications were lost. I re-installed the software, but the UPS is not found. So I thought having a blue Monday product and replaced it for a new one again (including serial cable). But the new one is also not found. Deleted all PowerChute modules en re-installed (the latest) the software again. But during setup the UPS is not auto detected. I can fill in the required fields manually and selected COM1 and Smart UPS. The setup continues. Though when I configure the Console, I get: Failed to apply the configuration profile to SERVER.

The Server is a HP Proliant ML 350G6, OS=Windows Small Business Server 2008

I'm completelly lost. Any help is apriciated.

Best Regards

Dennis

As stated before, after connecting with an USB cable, I was able to configure/install the software. Also the configuration profile was applied correctly.

Thanks and Regards

Dennis

To start with, let us help you by gathering the information that we would need to assist you better.

We would like to know the exact model number of the UPS that you just bought. This is normally found at the back of the Smart-UPS where there is a small white barcoded sticker. Next, what kind of communication cable were you using? Is it USB or serial? Do you have the part number of the cable as well? You have mentioned that you've uninstalled and reinstalled an APC software, is it PowerChute Business Edition or Network Shutdown?

If you are using a USB connection, can you check the Device Manager and see if it is listed there.

Once we have all of these information, we would start digging more about your problem.

Hi JonPro,

As I'm not on the client site, I try to gather the information from my archive.

The model of the UPS = SMT2200I

The used cable is a serial cable, which was shipped with the UPS (and has been replaced as well). At the UPS site, a RJ45 connector and at the server site DB9. Don't know the exact partnumber.

The Software Used is PowerChute Business Edition v9.0.1.

Hope you can help.

Best Regards

Dennis

Thanks for giving us an update. Basically, when you are using serial communication the UPS is not detected automatically by the PC. Have you tried this on a different PC or have used the USB cable to see if it gets detected?

I would also make sure that there are no services or programs that might be interfering with the serial port/communication.

Hi JonPro,

I connected the UPS via USB. I was not able to test the UPS on a different machine, as I had no machine with a comport avialable onsite. Via USB I was able to configure the UPS, install the software, well.
Maybe a faulty comport? I will try to confirm that, as the server is brand new and thus under warranty.

Thanks for your help!

Best Regards

Dennis.

Hi Dennis,

After installing PowerChute Business Edition, were you able to get to the web interface? If not, can you please open up a web browser and key in https://PCIPAddress:6547 this should open up the Agent interface. Make sure that your UPS is detected and it doesn't say something like Unknown Device. Also, during the installation of PCBE Agent and Server it asked you to key in your desired username and password and this should have the same value.

Also, kindly check this APC Knowledgebase Article - ["Failed to Apply Configuration Profile" error when adding Agents to PowerChute Business Edition Server|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2596/kw/failed%20to%20apply]

Hi JonPro,

The web interface works correct. Though I knew about the username issue. Still believe it's a faulty comport.

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards

Dennis.

Hi Dennis,

If the web interface works fine, meaning it detects what kind of UPS is attached to it it means that they are communicating with one another. If it is the Failed To Apply the configuration profile that you are experiencing, then the APC KBase should give you an idea on what should be checked.
