I have bought a brand new Smart UPS 1500 (tower). I have unpacked, installed the UPS by plugging it into the wall, connected the battery connection on the back of the UPS and then connecting my systems to the UPS. However, when I power up the UPS it has warned me that the battery is disconnected. I have also taken off the front panel and double checked the internal battery connection (which is connected).
I have also unplugged the power cord for the UPS and the systems shut off. What can I do about this problem. I would not expect any issues from a brand new unit.

Can you post the exact model and serial number of the UPS? Do you have another UPS that uses the same type of battery? If you do it would help if we can swap the batteries.
