Smart-UPS 1000 with AP9607 interface expander, what serial cable?

Hi everyone

Just been trying to find out what serial cables I need to connect another device to the AP9607 interface expander.
It looks like I've set myself up for some proprietory hell with this one... I'm guessing I can't just use a regular serial cable or null modem serial cable or anything?

It's just a pair of standard Linux (RHEL) boxes I want to connect to the interface expander

What cables do I need for this?
I have looked this up in the AP9607 manual so I think I know what I need, just want to get the confirmation on here

Cheers, B

Hey Ben,

You need to attach the 940-0020 simple signaling cable between the Interface Expander serial ports and RHEL. Click here to view the PCBE agent compatibility chart.

Woah that sucks. So you have to use a proprietory cable?
I might actually just connect the 2 boxes via serial cable and write a script to check the status instead

Does PCBE support confirmed shutdown mode?
The AP9607 manual only talks about Powerchute plus and not PCBE

Yes, you have to use an APC Serial cable(940-0020) between the Interface Expander and Server not a standard serial or straight through serial cable.
The Power Chute Plus is no longer available. The PCBE is the latest software which communicates via the serial cable. For your information, the PCBE single node software can be downloaded off the APC site. I am not sure about confirmed shutdown mode. What do you mean by confirmed shutdown mode?

The PCBE software can shutdown connected server gracefully in the event of power failure.

Yeah I already have PCBE up and running on the main server.

The AP9607 manual mentions confirmed mode on p19, available from here
http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9607&tab=documentation
