Small IT - Is your Symmetra in a rack with your servers?
Hi! My firm has a very small IT department with a very small IT budget... we have just now purchased a rack for our multiple rack mounted servers. Anywhoooooo....we have a symmetra housed in the rolling floor cabinet from APC. When we purchased it, we purchased the rack mount kit as well... I would like to consolidate our symmetra into the rack with the servers (4 servers - 24u enclosed ventilated Dell rack). The only cooling that is currently in use in the room is a comination of the building ventillation and air as well as a standalone commericial air unit that keeps the room very chilly.
Do you house your Symmetra or UPS in the rack with your servers? If so, what cooling practices do you use to keep the UPS' extreme heat moving out of the rack? Would you keep it seperate, on the floor, or consolidate? Space is a huge factor as the room is 11 x 8 and at times houses 2 working people and all of our equipment and spares.
This is my first exposure to a rack and want to make sure we do it all right the first time around as far as neatness, cooling, and expandability go... the other techs do not want to even consider it because of the labor involved in disassembling the floor unit nad moving it to the rack (which actually looks pretty straightforward).
