Shutting down UPS via USB
Model: APC Smart-UPS 3000VA
Hello,
so I've connected the UPS via USB to my Windows server 2012, I've installed all necessary drivers and even got it working with apcupsd.
Now I need to be able to shutdown the ups via a script. Typically you have a power failure and want to shutdown the systems and finally the ups, and when the power comes back up, the ups powers on automatically. However, in this case it's the other way around. The server should initiate an ups shutdown and then shut itself down. Some time after that, the power to the ups will be disconnected and when it is connected again, the ups should power on automatically.
I know it sounds strange, but the reason for that is that there is no power failure in a sense of that it is unexpected; the server knows that the power is about to go down, therefore he shall shut the ups and itself down so that it will automatically boot once the power is back up.
Apcupsd wouldn't let me killpower the ups when it is on bat, seems like it only works when there is a power failure.

Hi,
Are you looking for scheduled shutdown and start-up? If so, PowerChute Business Edition offers that feature. I reviewed APCUPSD mail list archive and found a few entries about scheduled shutdown/start-up. 1 of the entries mentions a user had created a script that would perform the task but I did not see the script posted. If you want that feature with APCUPSD I suggest posting to their mail list. It is quite possible someone has the script you could use.
