Hello to all,
on our network I have a Smart-UPS X 3000, which powers 3 physical machines.
Two of them belong to a small VMware Datacenter, the other is a Windows fileserver.
To make sure, each and any guest and at last both VMware hosts are shut down,
I installed PCNS (4.1) for virtualization on the physical Windows machine.
From this one I can connect to the vCenter VM which hopefully will send the whole VMware stuff to sleep, when initiaded.
The thing I'm puzzled about: what will happen to my Windows machine after the VMware environ is shut down ?
I didn't find an option, where to configure the shutdown for the host itself, that runs PCNS.
Did I oversee anything or do I have to install both PCNS applications on one machine ?
Any help is appreciated
Regards R.

Hi,
Is PowerChute set up with 3 redundant UPS? If so this configuration is listed on page 3 of Application Note 180. What will happen is after the host are powered down PowerChute will command the Windows system to power down automatically.
If each system is connected to an individual UPS then the Windows system running PowerChute will be powered down after the VMware host if all UPS are on battery. See page 6 of Application Note 180 for an example and explanation.

Hello Bill,
it's just a single UPS, which powers all three servers.
Nevertheless, the Application Note recommended by you covers this scenario too and explains how to configure.
Thank you very much for providing the needed information !
In our case everything already would've worked
but it puzzled me, there was nothing in the configuration which pointed to the shutdown of the Windows host, running PCNS.
Just to put it clear: it will be shut down but there's no time interval with the need to configure as this is hardcoded inside the program ?
Regards R.
