I would be grateful if some helpful person could give me some pointers as to how I could achieve a shutdown of the UPS to happen automatically if the connected PC is shutdown.
The application of the UPS is very simple. We use the an SMT750i in an industrial machine, I have recently added s UPS inside the machine so that we always achieve a graceful shutdown of the PC. The PC is connected to the UPS directly through a USB cable supplied with the UPS. we are running PCBE ver 9.1.0.614
I have configured the UPS to shutdown the PC 30 seconds after power is removed, this all works very well. My problem is that if a user does a manual software shutdown the UPS remains on and the PC is off. In order to get the PC switched back on the user has to open a panel on the machine and push the power switch on the PC to turn it on. This is of course is not what we want.
So with the above in mind I would like the UPS to be shutdown if the user does a manual software shutdown of the PC through the OS (Windows 7).
I would welcome any sughestions as to how I could achieve my aims with the UPS. Thank you in advance

HI,
The user could automate a schedule a shutdown and restart via PCBE.
Go to Shutdown tab and select Shutdown Now. They can shut the OS and UPS down and tell the UPS when to wake.
Note: the wake delay must be greater than the time it takes for the outlet group(s) to be powered off.

Hi,
You could install a network management card into the UPS. The SMT750i has a switchable outlet group so when the PC is off you could log into the UPS and power cycle the outlet group which if the PC is configured properly (via the BIOS) will cause the PC to power back up.
The AP9630 would be my choices for this application since you do not need environmental management.

Thank you for your reply Bill P.
I don't think that is really a viable solution for us. The process needs to be automated.
Is it not possible to send a command from the connected UPS to initiate a delayed shutdown (say 30 seconds) when the user initiates a shutdown on the PC?
