Hello,
I'm looking for some guidance with regards to the proper configuration for a Smart-UPS 3000 XL with a Battery Pack and two servers attached. Both devices (the ups components, were purchased in 2008. The 3000 is rack-mounted and one of the servers is connected to the device via usb. Both servers are plugged into an APC pdu(? big rack attached APC power bar type device) attached to the rack with the pdu plugged into the ups. The primary server (the one connected with the usb cable to the 3000) has the Powerchute software installed and the server is present in the device list. The other server is not. Also plugged into the pdu is tape unit, a switch, a firewall device.
So my multi-part question is this: does the Powerchute agent need to be on the other server? Do I need to change who the devices are connected to the ups? is there a recommended way to set this type of configuration up? Is there a way to get accurate runtime information with the current configuration?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

hi - i'd take a look at this thread and my explanation in there on how to do it - there are two different options but either way, will require additional hardware. i'd recommend the network management card method and using PCNS.
take a look and let me know if you have any additional questions.
