Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but I can't connect an SUA5000 via serial to a Dell PowerEdge 2970.
I've tried using the bundled 2099 cable (TIP to D9) as well as the RJ-45 - Serial cable. Both do the same thing: Nothing.
I've tried using all baud settings from 2400-14400, 8N1, No Flow
I'm wondering if the AP9631 card needs some sort of manual Reset??? or if it is not connected by default?
Since I'm trying to configure the static IP, I also tried using ARP on the Ethernet port, however I think because of my switch arrangement the arp request isn't getting through to the AP9631. Hence my desire for the Serial connection.
I'm very interested in any suggestions,
-daniel

The issue was the extension cable - evidently it must be a null-modem/crossover cable ... I thought to remove it after submitting the first post.
thanks for the response.

Hi,
I am confused. What are you trying to achieve with connecting the server to the UPS? You're talking about serial connecting the UPS but then also you mentioned the UPS Network Management Card.
If we're talking about logging into the AP9631, which you cannot directly connect to a server for "management" but rather configuring the AP9631 with TCP/IP settings.
I'd make sure your 940-0299 cable is fully inserted into the AP9631 "console" jack and then connect the DB-9 end to the computer. If you're using a serial to USB adapter, then you'd have to verify that is installed properly. Then, that device connects at 9600, 8, N, 1, None port settings.
I'd want to know what you see for LEDs on the AP9631. Assuming the card is horizontally mounted, your network link LED labeled 10/100 is on the left of the ethernet jack, and the status LED is on the right which a checkmark and X next to it. Let me know the colors and if it is solid and flashing. That will tell me what is going on with the card.
Assuming its ok, you'd set up terminal settings, making sure scroll lock is it not on, press enter several times and you should get a username and password prompt.
