I have four identical APC 3000R,I can connect to three of them using the APC cable but the four I don't get anything. I am 100% certain the cable/settings are good - it works on the others.
Any suggestions
TIA

Would you be able to provide the model # from the back of the unit? It will be on a white tag. Something like sua3000 or su3000

Is there a network management card (NMC) involved on this setup? How are you verifying that there is a communication between the UPS and the computer that you are using?

There is a AP9617 in there at the moment, I have tried two different cards (both work in the other UPSs), I have tried the serial with and without the card in place. The same cable/laptop/program combination works on all the other 3 UPSs

Have you tried performing a brain dead on the fourth UPS? Brain dead forces a "reboot" of the internal microprocessor, but will not erase any stored settings. Below is the guide on how you would do it on your SUA UPS.
1) Turn off and unplug UPS from wall
2) Press and hold the OFF button again
3) You may see a quick flash of the LED's and you should hear an audible ""click"" from the UPS.
4) Turn UPS back on
If you have done this step and it still would not communicate with the network management card as well as talk to the UPS using the cable/program, it is most likely that the SmartSlot communication is busted.
