Hi,
Since a month 1 of our UPS's gave a status 'Selftest - refused'.
Since then the ups is constantly trying to do a selftest but it keeps failing.
Could this be because of a faulty battery ?
Cause the logs dont tell me anything about what is happening nor does the info from the powerchute.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings
Kevin

can you provide those logs you are looking at please? and more details on the UPS model (Smart UPS 1500 can be many models)?
Ideally, the exact SKU would be good from the back of the UPS and also first several digits of the serial number along with the model.
Typically, self test might be refused for a very high load (so do you know the load percentage) and I'll have to check what else (possibly battery capacity is not 100%).

There is a long delay between self test initiated and self test failed - should be no longer than 30 seconds for this type of UPS but then I also see communication lost right after that.
Would it be possible to reset this UPS? It will require turning the attached load off and removing it as well as removing the USB or serial cable you have connected. Then turn the UPS off and remove it from AC power. When you do that, then hold down the off button on the front (o) and see if you hear the UPS click and flash its LEDs after about 3-5 seconds of that. This does a reset on the UPS communications as you are seeing comm lost/established as well.
Can you specify - is this monitored via USB or serial communications? If its USB, it could also be on the computer USB side (or serial but it doesnt happen as much).
Lastly, assuming there isn't really a problem with the battery, you can try to issue a self test from the front panel by holding the test button. This forces it where the automatic test or one issued via the software is something where the UPS checks to make sure certain criteria are met before the self test is carried out. If we can force a manual one, that can help determine the problem here too.
