Hello,
I have an APC Smart-UPS 750 part number SMT750I serial number AS1028120948.
The device runs himself a periodic self test. The problem is that this self test fails with a "Power Overload" error. And the device cuts the power output and beeps.
It is impossible. The device is not overloaded in power demand...
I tested it with a new battery. Same problem.
The firmware are:
Firmware 1 UPS 05.0
Firmware 2 COM 02.1
Must I do a firmware upgrade? How do I do this?
Can I reset the device so that the values for the power overload are coherent?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Andrew

Hello,
Concerning my problem, I would have another question :
On the UPS device, is it possible to deactivate this weekly hardware self-test ?
That way I can by-pass my problem…
How would I perform this thru the menus on the device?
Thanks for your help.
Best regards.

Andrew,
What happens if you power down anything that is plugged into the SMT and from the LCD go to Test & Diags, select self-test. Does the UPS run the self-test and does it pass or fail?
Instruction on how to upgrade the SMTs firmware can be found in Kbase FA164737

Hello Bill,
Well, if I unplug everything that is connected to the UPS an run the self test, it has a lot more chances to pass the test. But it is not guaranteed.
Sometimes the device fails it's self test with nothing attached to it. I must turn it back on multiple times for it to pass the test and stay on.
So there is something flaky with it.
As I said it also happens with a brand new battery.
Is there a sort a reset procedure I can do ?
Thanks for your help.
Andrew

Andrew,
You can reset the UPS to factory defaults from the LCD panel and brain dead the unit by powering down the unit, unplugging it from the AC source and then disconnecting the battery. If resetting, brain deading, and upgrading the firmware does not resolve the issue you will need to replace the unit. If it is under warranty you should contact the regional technical support team for help with the replacement.
