SURT192XLBP with SURT6000XLT

This was originally posted on APC forums on 4/9/2015

Hello, I have purchased empty SURT192XLBP, and I have one SURT6000XLT. My question is, what volatge should I have to measure in the battery connectors in the SURT192XLB.?

Just to be sure about the DC voltage before I connect them to the UPS battery connectors in the rear panel.

BR, José

Hi again José,

Oh ok.

Yes, you're correct - for SURT6000XLT, (16) 12v modules wired together in series to give you 192vDC is what is in this model UPS and battery pack. There are two strings in each - 8 modules a piece. The part number for the batteries is APCRBC140 (which just replaced RBC44 which will also work) which comes with these two strings. (Some of the larger SURT models use (4) strings, or (2) APCRBC140 and the voltage on the bus is the same so the additional (2) strings are wired in parallel to give additional runtime but the voltage remains the same).

You can connect up to (10) SURT192XLBP external battery packs to this UPS.

Hi Jose,

This UPS and battery pack have a nominal 192vDC voltage battery bus which should float at ~210-218vDC. The SURT192XLBP needs to have batteries installed though for it to read any voltage so I was a little confused when you said it is empty.

In general, it is a bad idea to mix new and old batteries as the older batteries can damage the newer ones. I just wanted to mention it relating to this situation.

Thanks for the reply.

The SURT6000XLT has the internal batteries brand new, the UPS is a brand new one.

So I have purchased one SURT192XLBP without internal batteries, so I have purchased new batteries and will install them in the SURT192XLBP.

I am just double checking.

So they are 16 batteries in series that will measure nominal 192VDC at each "white" battery connector, right.?

And, how many SURT192XLBP, can I add to my SURT6000XLT.?

BR, José
