I have what, in every other respect,
looks and acts like a brand new SUA750RM2U -
I took off the calibration and test tag myself
and it indicated it had passed all tests.
However, when I install an AP9619 EM card
(that works perfectly in an SUA1000RM2U)
in the Smart-Slot, the card shows no signs of life at all.
The UPS itself appears to be functioning normally,
but no status or link light on the card whether it is
plugged into my network switch or not,
and no communications with the card.
If I remove the card (following
the proper shut-down procedure)
and connect a laptop to the DB9 Connector:
Shift-A = Beep
Shift-Y = "SM"
I accidently hit Shift-D and it
went into some kind of battery test, I think,
I had to hit Shift-D again to cancel the test.
If I connect a PowerView to the DB9 connector,
it works just fine - reflects the appropriate voltages
and conditions, can start up, shut down and
run tests on the unit, . . .
With an AP9600 plugged into the DB9 connector
with the same AP9619 card loaded in it,
everything associated with the card works like normal -
I can log in from the network, move through the web pages,
control the UPS, see the logs and values of the external
Temp-Humidity sensor, . . .
So - the unit appears to be fully functional when viewed through
the DB9 connector, but the Smart-Slot shows no activity
on the card with a known good AP9619 plugged in to it.
Is the Smart-Slot not powering the card?
Is it somehow shut-off or disabled?
Any ideas? JELo

Are you able to log into the NMC with the following procedure, with the NMC installed in the UPS' smartslot?
Connect UPS to serial port using Smart-signaling cable (940-0024)
Run HyperTerminal
Configure port settings to: 2400 bps, 8 databits, no parity, 1 stopbit, and no flow control.
Save changes.
Press enter to display username prompt.
Use "apc" for username and password.
You are now in the NMC control console.
The shift Y procedure is more for testing UPS communication via link language. Your serial port seems to be fine. There is no way to really force a card to not "start" when installed into a smartslot. You can make it not comm on a network, of course, but as soon as it's inserted into a smartslot you should be able to use the above procedure to log into the NMC directly via hyperterminal.
Edit:Didn't see your specification of no link LEDs or status LED. See i picked a winna's post below for a correct diagnosis 😛

hi,
based on all the evidence and testing results you have, i'd have to concur that there is a problem with the smart slot. the smart slot cannot be "disabled." i'd have to guess that the ribbon cable that powers the slot is loose or damaged or something along those lines. unfortunately, you'd have to get the entire unit replaced so i'd recommend contacting APC support for a replacement and just send all the information/testing you did that you posted here. there is no doubt in my mind the problem lies with the smart slot since the card works every place else and just doesnt light up in this slot.
