Powerchute with more then 50 servers, How broadcast works

Hi,

I have set up 2 APC SmartUPS in cross connect for my servers. I have more then 50 servers that I need to connect in those two racks. My question is related to what they say in the documentation. Its not explained where you can set up a PowerChute configured server to broadcast in his network segment to another machine that is not in the Management Card list, cause of the limitation.

How, where can I setup this broadcast, is that automatic or need to be configured, do I need Powerchute on the other server, how I should configure Powerchute on other, if I have more then 50 it wont take it in the list, and will probably set it as will it still received message from a On Battery event re-broadcast by one on the list ?

Regards,

Martin

Ok, thanks,

Im still not sure if its working, Ill give it more time maybe, Im trying right now with the as stated in another thread to test it.

I have five server on the same network segment, 2 of them are on the list, 3 others arent but have pcsn installed, so it should work nicely. Ill give it more tries.

Thanks for the fast answer and Ill comeback to you if its not working.

Regards

Martin

But also a problem when we used SBS2000

hi,

you do need to install powerchute on every single machine that you'd want to shutdown so that the PCNS software can see the broadcast and then the software itself tells the operating system to shutdown. it works the same way even if its one of the ones not on the registered clients list. this behavior is set up automatically so you dont need to do anything special to tell the PCNS software to check for broadcasts or anything. just install it and give it the IP address of the management card that it needs to look for broadcasts from. you should be able to install the PCNS software and have it communicate with the management card, it just wont add itself to the clients list in the network management card since the list will have been maxed out at 50.

let me know if you need anything else!

P.S. the article that i posted in the other thread would be applicable here but i will post it again incase anyone else looking at this thread is interested. please click here
