SUA3000RMI2U Continuous Beep
Hi All,
I'm hoping I can get a positive answer here but expecting another based on my research so far.
I have a Smart-UPS SUA3000RMI2U that's approx 9 years old. I was given it when a customer was going to throw it out and when I got it home powered it up and found it in almost perfect working order.
I don't know how old the batteries are but suspect they are not the originals since there is no product number on the cartridge.
It recently died with a continuous noise from the beeper and the battery warning light flashing red (one with the battery and cross at the bottom). My suspicion is/was the battery and I promptly disconnected it so I can begin some diagnosis, since it is an old unit and I intend on working on it myself instead of replacing it straight away.
I have thus far found that regardless of whether the battery is connected and its on mains the beeping stays on. If I plug in the battery the beeping continues. If I unplug the mains with the battery connected it goes on.
If I disconnect the battery with no mains it obviously stops and I can turn the unit off with the front panel.
Checking the battery at first I can see 52V. Checking each cell I get 13.15V on all but one cell which only gives between 9.5V and 10V so I assume its knackered. I have also had no luck in charging it separately on my Pb charger.
So to test the UPS further I disconnected half of the batteries to give me the same 52V but with only half the capacity in an effort to prove it is the battery which has died so I didn't go and buy a battery if I didn't need to. However I get the same 'beeping' noise! Continuous and loud and beeping annoying.
PowerChute can see the UPS but reported no battery connected. I need to test with the half capacity setup and PowerChute next.
Has anyone else see this issue? Do you know what causes it? Were you able to fix it? Is it possible to fix such a problem?
I'm keen to try and repair the unit myself or have it repaired if required rather than replacing it.
