SUA3000 RMI 3U Internal Temperature

Hi,

I have a couple of SUA3000 RMI 3U UPSs with internal temperatures running at around 45 Degrees C.

Can anyone please advise what the normal operating range should be for the internal temperature, i.e., not the ambient temperature?

Hi Dave,

I don't think there is a normal operating temp for APC UPS's as the internal temperature is going to be influenced by a few environmental factors. I am not 100% sure but I do not think the UPS are designed to activate the internal fans when a certain temp is reached but rather only start operating when the UPS goes onto battery operation. Hopefully someone else on the forum can correct me. But the internal temp can be influenced by the ambient temp when the unit is in a area where there is no airflow. From the temp you have given it sounds like the unit is in this kind of environment. Another factor that could influence the internal temp is a failed battery cell so it might be a good idea to get the batteries checked to be safe. The internal temp for the units we see can range from 25 - 47ºC so while this temp is not ideal I think it is pretty normal, but I would look at the environment the unit is located and see if you can possibly make changes. If the temp is not caused by a faulty battery this temp can significantly reduce the life of your batteries.

thanks a lot for the reply.

You are correct about the environmental conditions in the location, that is being looked at.

The temperature range that you see is a useful comparison, as you say, while not ideal, at least mine do not appear to be too unusual. You also make a good point about the batteries, one in particular is giving me cause for concern and I will be checking the batteries when I can get access to the UPS.
