Have a SUA2200XL and a SURTD5000RMXLP3U... is charge wattage dependent on load?
For the SUA2200XL, it has a Battery Charge Power (Watts) of 271 W rated, with a rated Typical recharge time of 3 hours.
Will the unit charge batteries faster, the less load there is... or even powered on, no load, and exhausted batteries, it'll still take 3hrs to recharge the RBC55s? With a SUA48XLBP connected, that sounds that it'll take 9hrs to recharge.
Same question for the SURTD5000RMXLP3U... Battery Charge Power (Watts) of 382 W rated, with a rated Typical recharge time of 2.5hrs for the RBC140s.
Will that unit charge faster, with no load?
Thx!

Hi,
The typical recharge time for Smart-UPS is independent of load. As long as utility AC is available during the recharge cycle, the UPS units would recharge in similar timeframes whether load is connected or not.
Adding external battery packs will increase the required recharge time depending on the number of RBCs in the external battery pack; as you mentioned, with an SUA48XLBP connected to the SUA2200XL, the system will require 9 hours to recharge.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

It makes sense, yet it still is unpreferable... this wold be the same with our SURTD5000RMXLP3U and SURTD5000RMXLP3U... basically, that says the onsite generator can't turn off, until the batteries are fully charged... which sounds to be from 15min to around 8-9hrs, for just about any Smart-UPS XL config. Yet just imagine if you blew a config out to 10 external packs... over 60hrs to recharge fully depleted packs... 🙂
Ok, so are there any configs that will charge based on load...? Is this the same, for the Symmetra line?
Thx!

Hi,
The load would not impact the battery charging rates on the Symmetra LX either.
If there already is a generator on site, the application could potentially be adjusted so that in case of an extended utility AC outage, the generator can power the UPS during the outage, reducing the required UPS runtime (and by extension the number of external battery packs, and the required recharge times). The UPS may still transfer to battery temporarily while the generator output is being turned on or stabilizing, but the generator would bear the brunt of the runtime.
Any questions, please let me know!
