SUA1500RMI2U On Battery Issues

Hi Guys,

I need some help with my APC UPS.

I discovered this problem when there was an outage. The UPS will drop load after running on batteries for close to 5 mins.
I've checked that the UPS is accepting input, can charge the batteries to full. All indicators are normal.

My load is about 20 ~ 40% (Load indicator 2 bars), battery status is 100% (Batt level fully illuminated)

After allowing the UPS to charge for 48 Hrs. I ran a trial with the exact same load. When I unplugged the input cord, the Battery indicator will come on followed with a beep. At about 4++ mins, my loads suddently switched off. At the UPS all LEDs on the left portion (AVR Trim, Online, AVR Boost and all Load leds) will flash and there are no beeps. At the time the UPS dropped load, the batt indicator still has 4 bars.

I tried plugging the input cord back in but the UPS doesn't seemed to respond and LEDs are still flashing. I have to totally shutdown the UPS then turn it on from front panel then only it will switch to normal/charging mode. With the battery level at 4 bars I tried the entire process again and the same thing will occur after 4++ mins.

The UPS was not connected to any Powerchute clients. No serial or USB cables was used.

Need advice for this wierd case.

Regards, C.L.Chee

I've managed to installed PowerChute and link via serial cable but nothing much can be seen from the event logs.

UPS Load: 52%
Line Voltage: 239V
Output: 241.9 ~ 243.3 50Hz
UPS Internal Temp: 25.6C
Battery Voltage: 27.67

When input disconnected:

Line Voltage: 0V
Output: 230.4V 50Hz
UPS Internal Temp: 26.1C
Battery Voltage: 26.86V

In the event log there's only " Power Failed" then followed by "Communication Lost" and "Communication Established" because I shutdown and restarted the UPS after it dropped load 3 minutes later.

Any Idea ?

Regards,
C.L.Chee

All LEDs on the left side will flash at the same time.

I've tried looking it up the manual and the closest description is that the UPS has been shut down
remotely through software but doesn't show any signs of recovery when I plugin the Input cord.

I have discovered that if I reduce the load it will be able to discharge the batteries, sleep, and then wake up and power up my computers when input resumes.

Next, I'm ganna try it out with PowerChute but I have to find the serial cable and CD first !!

hmm...sounds like that there is something wrong in the unit's circuitry. Are these lights which you mentioned flashing at the same time or alternatively? Is they any way for you to monitor the UPS through power chute to see whats going on with it?
