I've been happily using APC UPS of various shapes and sizes for my servers for many years. Recently, I was tasked with procuring an additional set of UPS', and it was requested that I consider multiple vendors. So, despite my desire to continue using APC, I'm trying to really nail down what stands them above the rest, such as Eaton or Tripplite or whatever. The APC is about $1-2k more expensive per unit than the other vendors I just listed...
So, when I'm searching through the various options between these vendors, what sort of things should I be aware of that might justify the added expense. Reliability? (how can I speak to this if I've never used these others?) Response time? Flexibility in the voltage regulation?
I hope this isn't out of place on a vendor specific forum, although I think these are fair questions to ask when evaluating ones options in this area. I'm also looking for a sober discussion without a lot of selling, just pros and cons, if possible.
