SUA1500RMI2U - No internal connector for NMC

Hi,

I recently picked up a second hand SUA1500RMI2U, and then later on managed to get an AP9619 NMC.

When I removed the blanking panel for the NMC, I noticed there was no electrical connector for the NMC to mate too.

I removed the cover, and internally I can see there is definitely no connection, however there is an empty 14 pin header.

I emailed APC support, and it was suggested that this cable (+frame I presume) was possibly removed.

The 14pin header is just above and to the left of the big capacitor in the second image.

Can anyone provide internal photos so I can see what it should be like? As far as cabling, it will not be hard to make up a 14pin IDC to 20pin PCB edge connector if this is all that is missing.

Regards,

Hi all,

Yes it was used, I can't understand why it was removed, but the price I got it for makes it not a huge issue! I also got the NMC card for a bargain price too.

I have ordered a 14pin IDC with cable and a 20pin IDC edge socket, which is hopefully all I need.

The only problem I can see is if there is any jumpering on the edge socket, as looking at the NMC I can see that some of these pins that wouldnt otherwise be connected using the 14 to 20 pin conversion. I.e., all the pins on the NMC seem to have tracks running somewhere. However, these is the possibility that these are only used in the 3 bay expansion chassis for multiplexing or something.

It would be useful if someone had some photos of the cable orientation into the plugs so I can more easily match this up. The pinouts on these kind of things dont seem to be available. If someone had details photos of both plugs (from the same cable) showing exactly which edge the red stripe is on then it will be easy for me to match up.

Either way I will post my success or failure in getting this connected.

Cheers.

You got this used? Seems a little sketchy that this was removed...

You're missing the entire SmartSlot housing on the UPS. We don't sell or provide this part because the internals of the UPS are not technically serviceable. You might be able to find one by cannibalizing another UPS and proceeding at your own risk though.

I found a picture of another UPS online that has the SmartSlot housing intact. I don't have a picture of it from the rear view. This housing connects to the UPS mainboard by a ribbon cable.

Hi there,

There is a replacement smartslot housing/cable on Ebay fairly cheap at the moment:

APC SU3000R UPS IO Smartslot With Cable Assembly 870 7308 | eBay

Although it says it is for a 3000 ups it should be a match for your 1500 as APC used the same housing in all these older smart-ups...the only change in the housing I've seen was for the SMX ups which only accept the AP963x cards and feature two metal tabs which jut out.

Or, an alternative is to grab an APC model AP9600 external smartslot chassis off Ebay or Craigslist...tjere are about a dozen on the Bay and the cheapest will run you about $25 to $30 plus shipping. This plugs into the rear panel DB-9 serial port on the UPS. This DB-9 from the UPS will power the chassis so you don't necessarily need the external 24 VDC adapter.
