SUA1500 Fan Operation

I just recently purchased a Smart-UPS model SUA1500. I noticed that the fan seems to run continuosly although at a slower speed than the normal high speed that it runs at during battery use or battery charging. Is it supposed to do that? Does anyone else have this model and notice theirs doing the same?

Ok, so we've established that newer generation models have the fan run constantly at low speed. This seems unneccessary to me, and I think many others would like the option to disable this function.

My biggest concern is that this will drain the battery during an extended power outage. When I turn my unit off, and remove it from power, the fan still continues to run until I disconnect the battery. I would certainly expect the fan to stop running once the unit is turned off.

APC - please hear us on this one!!

hi.

the fan ISNT supposed to run all the time.

the four things to cause it to run will be:

*•>75% load*
*•on battery*
*•charging the battery*
*•internal temp is higher than 104º*

i am checking to make sure theres nothing else on APC's end that has been changed recently to cause it to remain on because I have seen this before - and also the fact that you said it appears to be different speeds.

please check the above conditions and in the mean time, I will post again if there is a change where it should be running continuously now.

i have confirmed that this was recently changed on the UPS.

so - on newer units, (i dont have a cut off serial number or anything) they do have 2 different fan speeds as you described.

it will be always on, the lower speed when one of those 4 conditions isnt meant and then it speeds up when one of those 4 things happens.

so far, i just know its the SUA1500 - in the process of checking if any other units do this as well.

do you mind posting the first digits of your serial number? You can just post the QSXXYY portion of it if you'd like.

thanks!

Thank you for your reply. The first few digits of the serial number are AS0745.

So when you said newer UPS, what is the manufacturer date to be considered newer?
Thanks.
