SMX2200HV "PFC Failure"

Our SMX2200HV Smart-UPS has failed, 3 months out of warranty. "PFC Failure". Made it brain-dead to reset, same. This is rather disappointing.

It has an external battery pack, batt is 99%, so its cheapest to get the same model again. But not if its going to do this. There are a bunch of posts with this PFC issue. (here's a doozy https://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/90758/smx3000rmlv2u-pfc-fail... )

We are on generator power, with a quite respectable year-old 110kVA FG Wilson genset (Perkins diesel).The UPS failed at an outage where the genset main spring-loaded electrical contactor was tripped by its under-charged control unit, which would seem to indicate a straight-forward power-off. Which is surely what the UPS is for.

Our (tiny remote country ~ no rebate on a replacement purchase) national APC agent suggests a Power Conditioner on the input power. But we already pay for the the APC to handle this, which it seems to me it should: "Input voltage range for main operations 140 - 280V. Surge energy rating 645Joules. Filtering Full time multi-pole noise filtering : 0.3% IEEE surge let-through : zero clamping response time : meets UL 1449"

Im left wondering if its sane to get another SMX ?  Or if we should go to another brand.   ~ Thank you.

btw the SMX is in 24/7 air con. Bottom is 31" above the floor, & the UPS is clean inside. The modest load is "831W 43%" & has never exceeded this (for one period was 653W). One caring & proud owner (till now).  ~ Thanks.
