I have SMX1500RM2UNC
Firmware Revision: UPS 03.8 / COM 03.8 / UBL 05.0 / CBL 02.1 (ID11)
The network card is Model Number: AP9631
It is hooked to a dedicated 20A circuit. Load on it is around 50%. Sensitivity set to reduced.
I get alerts that it is on battery power due to distorted input. Looking at event log I have recevied them on 4/20, 4/19, 3/23, 2/10, 2/9, 2/4, 1/20, and more before.
Also, unit seems to reboot and I get event message of Restored the local network management interface-to-UPS communication. Looking at the logs this happened on 4/8, 3/28, 11/25, 11/15, 10/22.
Is any of htis normal?
I see on the support site that there is a new firmware file of "PowerNet MIB v4.1.4" dated 1/29/2015.
thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike - yes, with all of the settings that we allow (transfer ranges, sensitivity, etc) even all at LOW, we would never put the attached equipment at risk. Furthermore, no matter what your settings are set to, we offer an equipment protection policy guarantee on Back-UPS, Smart-UPS, and Surge products if you felt that the unit was at fault for letting a surge or some other transient through to your equipment. Long story short, we stand behind the product and I would not worry that setting the settings to low would cause a problem for your equipment connected to your UPSs.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello,
Can you provide the full event.txt, data.txt, and config.ini files? (Or, provide the .tar file) What I am talking about is explained here for retrieving log files depending on firmware version -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156131
The UPS firmware (UPS 03.8) is the latest. The PowerNet MIB you are referencing is an SNMP MIB used with the AP9631 for users that utilize SNMP and is not applicable to what we're discussing.
We'll need to see the full logs to see if there is anything obvious going on here and to see what is rebooting. If you see Restored the local network management interface-to-UPS communication along with other events, the management interface on the AP9631 may have rebooted but I can't tell for certain based on what you've provided so far.
Once we have the logs, we can share more detail.

I am getting almost the exact same situation:
Firmware Revision:UPS 09.1 (ID20)
Model: SMX1500RM2UNC
MFG date: 8/29/2014
I would be happy to provide logs. If you can help where should I submit them?

Hi Jason,
I can take a look at the files and see what I can tell. The other poster's UPS had a lot older firmware than yours so the cause may be something different for a similar symptom.
You can email the files here to a Box folder I made: upload.APC_For.obfq3m3rb5@u.box.com
I prefer the full .tar file if you can provide that and your Network Management Card firmware is newer. Instructions were in that link you may have already seen above as to how to grab the files.

I still get the issue. Should I update the firmware?

Hi Mike,
To give you an answer I'd be confident in, I'll still need to see your logs if you can send the .tar file I mentioned. You can send them to the same email address as I posted earlier.

I thought I uploaded the logs a while back.
Another issue that may be related. I have both and SMX1500RM2UNC and a SMT1500.
I have a whole house generator (Generac 22KW). I have the SMT1500 on reduced power setting and it is fine the the generator power. However, for the the SMX, when on reduced, it is constantly switching onto battery due to distorted input ot something like that (every 30 seconds it switches back and forth). If I put the SMX on low, then it does not jump back and forth and has no issue with the generator power (acts like the SMT that is on reduced).
So right now I have the SMX on low and the SMT on reduced. The SMX is backing up a network switch, router, phone system and a few other devices. The SMT is a workstation and some othe devices.
Any reason why the SMX needs to be on low and the SMT is ok on reduced with the same power? Both have dedicated outlets to the main panel.
The generator has an ATS and does the entire house.
I lost power yesterday for around 12 hours so had plenty of time to see this happen.
For both the SMT (on reduced) and SMX (on low) if any of the AC kicked it, it would switch to battery for a few seconds, but this is expected due to the startup load of the AC.
thanks

Hi,
I do not see the logs in the Box folder I made which is access with that email address I previously posted earlier.
My first and gut thought is that SMT and SMX are different UPS designs so they may have different thresholds and sensitivity settings within their respective firmware/hardware architectures. To see what the difference is though, we would need to see the event and data log but even that may not be granular enough without seeing the input power through an oscilloscope and then having someone see how the different SMT and SMX product lines are interpreting things differently. So unfortunately, I don't have a straight answer but they are different units on both the inside and outside so I imagine that is what the reason is.

ok. I will try and send the logs later this week.
I guess the real question is, do I still get good enough protection with the SMX in low? The devices are sonicwall NSA router, Netger 748 swtich, ADT pulse router, Vera Home Automation Router, Panasonic TDA phone system. All seemed to be fine during the recent power outage on generator backup.
