I purchased a used SMX1500RM2U and I'm trying to update the firmware to the latest supported release. When I am trying to fine the correct firmware it talks about a UPS ID. When I go to the about screen on the UPS and list the firmware versions there isn't an ID listed. Is there another way to find out the ID or determine the correct firmware? I'm using this page. UPS info in below.
Model: SMX1500RM2U
Serial: AS1217XXXXXX
Manufactured: April 2012
Firmware Showing
UPS 09.1
MCU 09.1
UBL 06.9
MBL 6.0

When you launch and run the FUW (Firmware Update Wizard) the application will call out the UPS ID.
It will also present you with the correct UPS Firmware available to use. There is no need to browse for the specific file.
The APC Resource you linked to calls out how to find the UPS ID using other methods if available and present:
For the benefit of others they are via software Power Chute, NMC, SNMP, etc.
If the system has never been updated the factory firmware and UPS ID are on a sticker affixed to a chip.
Simply remove the top cover and look.
NOTE: Ensure you fully understand and have met all prerequisites and requirements before you attempt to upgrade the firmware.
Do not attempt to flash upgrade the unit via any other method besides using the supplied RJ50 -> RS-232 Serial Cable!

Thanks for the reply. The unit doesn't have the cable or NMC. I have a cable on order and will try this when it arrives. I was able to connect it via PowerChute using USB but that also didn't have the ID.

The UPS ID should be available via the About tab in Power Chute. Worst case it’s in the logs which you can export. As noted earlier you can remove the top cover and read the UPS ID and firmware applied from the factory at the time of manufacture.
Your system information shows 9.1 firmware.
