SMT750C - Need to Get Data via RS-232 or EtherNet (not using PowerChute)

Hello - I have an APC UPS SMT750C that is for a HMI PC on a manufacturing line.  I want to get some simple data from the UPS for the HMI/PLC control system - like battery voltage, line voltage, etc.  I have the AP940-0625A DB-9 to RJ-45 cable.  My serial connection is working as verified by PowerChute.  But when I use a terminal to connect (9600-8-N-1) I always get no response from a command-line Modbus command - I don't even get garbage back.  I have verified that my command from the terminal application is being transmitted as seen by the transmit LED on the serial port.  I could also use EtherNet if that would work too.  Any suggestions why I cannot get a response to a Modbus command in the terminal application?  One sample command I used was:  01 03 01 30 00 02 C5 F8 to get the battery percentage.

I assumed since the serial port (RJ-45 connector) was present on the unit that a NMC was not required - ??  I'll do some reading to double-check.  Thanks.

There are three ports on your system minus the Smart Slot for the (NMC) Network Management Card.

The Smart Connect with the green (RJ45) cloud icon symbol can only be connected to the APC Smart Connect Cloud Portal Service.

There is no local access or connection via this RJ45 Ethernet port. The RJ50 & USB port are serial ports to communicate with APC Power Chute Software / 3rd party like APCUPSD / NUT.

The RJ50 is also specifically used during a local firmware upgrade with the supplied proprietary RS-232 / DB9 serial cable.
