SMT750 not powering off after script finishes

Hi, I recently acquired an SMT750 smart ups, I'm testing it on a ESXi 5.5 free host with one Windows 7 VM running POWER CHUTE BUSINESS EDITION on it.

I need pcbe to shut down the esxi host and for that I'm running this command using PLINK on the Win7 VM:

(plink -ssh -2 -pw password root@192.168.x.x "/sbin/shutdown && /sbin/poweroff" )

When I unplug the ups command runs fine as I can see that esxi shuts down fine, the problem is that the UPS remains on wasting battery power.

I think the problem is that the Win7 VM is being shutdown by esxi (as it's configured to power on/off automatically) and not by power chute as it should be, therefore the ups is not receiving the command to shutdown and wait for the utility power to return.

Now this is only a test server I'm using for now with only one VM @ the moment I think this might also add to the problem and I can't add more VMs for lack of resources on this server.

Where I want to put this ups is on another esxi 5.5 free with about 6 VMs mix of Windows and Linux.

Any ideas on how to go about this...

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Your setup is not a supported configuration by Schneider Electric. We offer PowerChute Business Edition for licensed VMware versions.

That being said, if I were running that setup I would look at the outlet group configuration via the LCD panel. The UPS outlet group offers load shedding where the UPS will cut power to the outlet group after being on battery for x amount of time. See page 19 of the user's guide http://www.apc.com/salestools/AHUG-A3PCTP/AHUG-A3PCTP_R2_EN.pdf
