Hi everyone,
I'm looking to control (if possible) my SMT3000RM2U via the serial cable in terms of turning it on after a power failure and then when the utility power returns, to turn it off.
I found this post by Angela: http://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/9407/turn-on-surt8000xl-remot...
which details pins 7,8 & 9 as being for this purpose, but the serial port on my SMT3000RM2U is RJ48 so I would like to know how to translate the above 7-8-9 connection to RJ48 connector.
Also- Angela mentions that the connection as a momentary (240ms) connection. What would the UPS do if the connection was constant in one state or the other (like a relay would create)?
Greatly appreciate your time!
Chuck

Hi Lilla
The cable required is actually a smart signalling cable APC part no. 940-0625A rather than a generic serial cable.

Matt

Hi Charles -
Next generation Smart-UPS (anything with an LCD screen) use a different communications protocol and cable pin-out than legacy products. You can get all the details in this application note: http://www.apc.com/salestools/MPAO-9E5RB5/MPAO-9E5RB5_R1_EN.pdf
Hope that helps,
Liam

Hi...in my case after replacing the batteries, the unit works fine, except for one thing. Whenever I plug in a Serial Data Cable into the back of the unit, and THEN plug it into a Serial Port, the UPS shuts down, or it simply will not start. With just the cable plugged into the UPS, and the other end unplugged, it runs or starts fine. I even tried a Serial to USB Adapter, and the same thing happens. I just bought a generic Serial Cable, and not this one, since it appears to be just a generic cable.
