SMT1500I ID=17 MODBUS

I have an SMT1500I ID=17 with the latest supported firmware 7.1

This firmware does not support MODBUS.

Since I use only Linux based servers I need MODBUS so that I can control the UPS with apcupsd/apcaccess

When is APC going to release a firmware for this model that supports MODBUS?

Hi,

That version CPU will not support Modbus. However, you can use APCUPSD via USB. The difference is with USB com you will not get all of the info available via Modbus, but the computer will still be protected in the event of a power failure.

I am hereby asking APC to support MODBUS on SMT1500I ID=17 too.

APC created the problem by adopting a proprietary protocol not supported by 'apcupsd' and APC must fix the problem now by releasing a firmware that either support MODBUS or full control via Linux apcupsd on these models.

Failure to do that is unacceptable.

Do APC staff ever look at customers' messages? I am using this forum because I tried before to contact them via the website contact form and it returns an error.

I am a Schneider Electric employee and I understand your need. However, as stated in my initial post that UPS hardware is not capable of the upgrade you are requesting.

As mentioned earlier you can use USB com to the shutdown of the OS with the firmware currently installed on the UPS. Other options are to upgrade the SMT1500i to an SMT1500Ci that will ship with Modbus accessibility pre-installed. Or install the AP9620 legacy communications card in the Smart slot and connect APCUPSD via USB or serial to the card. The AP9620 card translates the UPS Microlink protocol to UPSlink protocol and APCUPSD was written initially for UPSlink.

I think that APC should make an effort to make this UPS compatible with apcupsd whether it be via MODBUS or a firmware upgrade that supports all the parameters in the old protocol.

I have much older SMART-UPS 1000 (one with the legacy SMART serial cable and one with USB) that work perfectly with apcupsd. I do not see why APC cannot make this one work like the older models too.

I am now waiting for the delivery of an AP9630, which I hope will resolve some of my problems allowing to control the UPS through the web interface.

Nevertheless it is unacceptable that APC refuses to make any more efforts in fixing this problem that they have created in the first place.
