Hi all,
We're enterprise users of the Smart-UPS 3000RM (and some of it's slight and older variations), and these all have AP9630/31 or AP9617/18 NMCs. We have 142 centers, and each center has 2 of these in the rack, so we're reasonably familliar. We're now on our third UPS in about 6 months where the runtime remaining value is extremely low (2-3mins), and does not correspond to the amps/load (in the latest case today, 9.1amps and 2mins runtime). We've performed calibrations, self-checks, so-called manual calibrations (pull the UPS power cord and drain), and replaced the battery, and nothing seems to change this time value. We've also upgraded firmware to latest versions for the NMC.
The three UPSs that this has happened to were slightly different models, and ages, but were all out of warranty (the one today, only by a few months). In the previous two cases we replaced the whole chassis (transferring over the battery and NMC from the old one without issue-- so it's likely neither of those components causing this), and this resolved. We don't believe in disabling or modifying critical notifications to work around, but we also take issue with spending thousands (including local vendor labor after prod hours) to replace a UPS chassis because of what we think may be a calculation or sensor bug.
Has anyone run into this issue before? If so, does anyone have any solutions that worked, or at least some ideas to try? We're clearly not happy about only getting a little over 3 years out of a chassis, but we're hopeful this may be a known issue with some known solutions.
Thanks to anyone for any input,
Sean

Hi Angela,
Thanks for your response, and my apologies for not getting back sooner. For the latest example of this, the "About" in the nmc doesn't give me the SKU (below), and the unit is not onsite. I tried to loook up on the warranty lookup page, hoping I could narrow it down with the serial number, but it doens't work that way, apparently. Let me know if the information below isn't sufficient, and I will get someone onsite to get me the SKU from the physical unit.
Model: | Smart-UPS 3000 RM |
Serial Number: | AS1148142258 |
Firmware Revision: | 666.6.D |
Manufacture Date: | 11/23/11 |
Also, I looked at a previous chassis that was replaced due to this issue (that we do have onsite), and it was a SUA3000RM2U (Serial # JS1032000066). Thanks for your offter to help, and please let me know if you need any more info.
Regards,
Sean

Hi Sean,
This may indeed just be a UPS firmware problem (not an NMC firmware problem) with a calibration not updating the runtime properly. To confirm that, I just need the specific model SKUs you're having a problem with i.e. SUA3000RM2U.
