Rubber button melted

I have had several of the rubber buttons on the back of AP96?? melt.  If the card is in a vertical position, it tends to melt, run down the card and generally makes a nasty mess.  I noticed another user commenting on this as well, https://community.se.com/t5/APC-UPS-Data-Center-Enterprise/bd-p/datacenter-forum.  It's possible I have seen a number of the melted buttons because we are upgrading from SU(A) to SMX.

Is the rubber button melting because a component on the AP96xx or the UPS is overheating?  I have thought about removing all the rubber buttons proactively to avoid a nasty mess.

Hi Jeff,

Older buttons (I believe on cards manufactured earlier than 2012) are more sensitive to higher temperature environments, specifically if the battery overtemps, since it is fairly close to the smartslot. If the button does melt, it can be cleaned off the card safely with nail polish remover.

The button on newer model NMC's is more resilient to high temperatures, and as such takes a significantly higher ambient temperature increase to melt.
