PowerChute Business Edition SMT3000c Outlet Group Configuration

Hi All,

I am a newbie at this and can use your expertise on configuring the following scenario.

I installed Powerchute business edition onto one of my server which is connected to the main outlet group. I have one other server and various network devices (daisy chained via power strip) plugged into the main outlet group. Monitors are plugged into Group 1 (controlled switch group). I'd like to configure the PowerChute software to shutdown main outlet group then Group 1 outlet in the event of a power outage and for the servers and network devices (plugged in main outlet group) to automatically start up when power is restored to AC. How do I go about achieving this scenario?

Hi,

I'd like to configure the PowerChute software to shutdown main outlet group then Group 1 outlet

When the Main is powered off AC is cut to group 1 so Group 1 must be powered off prior to the Main.

What you can do is switch and have the server and network devices powered by Group 1 and the monitors power by Main. Configure Group 1 to power off first then the Main.

Open the PowerChute web interface and go to Shutdown - Initial Setup. Set Group 1 as the PowerChute outlet group. On the next page in the power outage configuration set when you would like PowerChute to start the shutdown process. On the same page in the operating system and application shutdown set the amount of time it takes for the OS to power off and then click finish. Both outlet groups will wait the delay set for OS shutdown and then power off.

Then go to Shutdown - Outlet sequence you will see the settings displayed on a graph. Also you will see a check box to turn outlet groups on when AC is restored. The default is checked so the outlet groups will power back on when AC is restored.

You will need to configure the BIOs of the server to power on when AC is restored if that is not the default setting. For assistance with the BIOs you should contact the server manufacture.
