I have a Smart UPS 1000 (SUA1000) that needs to have the battery constant reset. I found some documentation on the internet on how to do this via Hyper Terminal, but I am having trouble. I have the UPS connected to a Windows XP machine with an APC Serial Cable (040-0024C), but when I start Hyper Terminal I cannot get it to respond. Currently, my serial port is set for 2400/8/n/1 and I have 16550 disabled. I start a terminal session using 2400/8/n/1 and Xon/Xoff. I get a blinking cursor. I tried hitting 'Y', and also 'Y' then ENTER. I do not get the expected response back from the UPS (SM).
HELP!
Thanks,
Jim

The issue was somehow tied to my desktop PC. I hooked up the cable to an old laptop I had, and tried it. It worked just fine. The UPS is charging now, and I will know for sure if resetting the constant fixed my issue tomorrow when I perform a self test.
Thanks!

you need to use none for flow control and do Shift + Y, not just Y. just be careful with the instructions you found and jot down any settings you find before you change them so you can go back worst case..
