Remote monitoring on a WAN - How can we capture UPS signals?

My company just started using KSoft (a network-based systems monitoring application) to manage all of our users. All of our customers use APC products, because that's all that we promote, so we are looking to find a way to manage APC events through KSoft.

KSoft uses Microsoft event ID's to send out notifications throughout the network, and back to our main server. With that being said, what events are we able to capture capture using the Microsoft Native UPS services? Are we able to capture more if APC software is utilized (Powerchute, for example)?

If we are able to capture more events by using APC's UPS management software, how can we capture those events if KSoft only detects Microsoft event ID's? Does APC's software write to it's own event log? If so where is it, and what are the events?

Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

Excellent.

In using PCBE, is there a way that we can capture those events? If so, is there a complete list of possible events that is available for public record?

Hey tmoore55,
Check out this link for a list events that would be logged in Microsoft's Event Log from PowerChute Plus or Business Edition.
http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=7784

I have no idea about the Microsoft Native UPS support Event ID. I spent a few minutes looking online for any list of Microsoft event codes, but wasn't really having much luck.

If KSoft supports SNMP, you may be able to use the SNMP capabilities is PowerChute and/or APC Network Managmenet Cards.
