Is there any way to monitor a Symmetra SYH4K6RMT using serial or USB similar to a smart-ups using powerchute personal?
We are needing to monitor the Symmetra on several linux servers that are not on the LAN with the network management card
Thanks
sk

Hi,
AP9207 will connect to the serial DB-9 port on the rear of your UPS, located on the Symmetra Communication Card (SYCC). And no, AP9624 or AP9207 can be used - they are just (2) and (7) port varieties depending on what you need. One is a SmartSlot card and one is more of a larger chassis to provide more ports.

Hello,
This UPS and those of its size typically only support the Network Management Card with PowerChute Network Shutdown. Though, you could look into using AP9624 Interface Expander 2 to give you two simple signaling DB-9 ports and install it in the second SmartSlot you should still have open. Your Network Management Card can stay. The old AP9207 Share-UPS (7) port version of this interface expander will likely work too but I don't know if those are available anymore as it is a legacy device.
Then, on the servers, you'd need something to interpret the simple signaling to see when the UPS is on battery, has a low battery, or is turning off. PowerChute Business Edition will likely work here because it won't know what type of UPS it is since it is not "smart" signaling. APCUPSD (www.apcupsd.org) open source software may also work for this application too and may have better Linux support depending on what distribution(s) you have.

Thanks for the info! If I were to try and find a AP9207, how would I connect it to the symmetra? would I actually require both the interface expander2 AND the AP9207?
Thanks,
SK
