I was trying to upgrade a SMX1000 Serial AS1539213xxx and Firmware Revision 09.1 (ID20) with the suggested SMT20UPS_10-2.enc via the Wizard 4.2.1 without any success as comunication was lost through the USB. Then I tried through a APC 9630 via the web manager and the firmware was transfered but then the UPS got stuck with a upgrading message process and all the leds were alternate flashing. Unfortunately I waited more than 2 hours without any progress.
Because the "upgrading process" the wizard is not sensing the UPS power off and refuses to continue the firmware upgrade.
When trying again to upgrade via the 9630 it is "transferring" the file but the UPS green led is off which I guess it's proof something is wrong.
One of the messages I saw on the 9630 showed there was not a no valid firmware but according to the revision notes this SMT20UPS enc is the one for this SMX1000.
I will deeply appreciate any tip as to force the firmware on site, no matter what should I do directly on the motherboard to reset it or allow the UPS to restart without getting back to the upgrading error loop because this UPS is on a remote location and it's impossible to send back for service
Robert

Thanks Gavan , as I explained before I was very very lucky to be able to reinstall the UPS firmware through a working AP9630 and the UPS is working great.
But now I would like your input regarding a used AP9630 I bought which unfortunately has a super user password and refuses to accept a factory reset through the rear reset button.
I can access it's web manager as a device user but nothing else, also I was able to access the card using the serial cable and Putty but It doesn't accept the reset to default command and provide me with a display message which says command not found. Network Management Card AOS is v6.2.1
Is there another way to force it to a factory default reset erasing all the settings and passwords ?

After wasting my time awaiting for solutions from customer support I decided to ignore all notes against the UPS firmware update through the network card and only to do it with the wizard through the USB port. I purchased another network card ap9630 , upgraded it's firmware to the latest then tried again to upgrade the UPS firmware via the network card and guess what: finally I was able to force the firmware update to the SMX1000 and save it.
So my final message to all of you: don't give up and try and try until you fix your problem !!!!

First you need to log into the device via SSH or Serial and enable FTP using this command:
ftp -S enable
Next you need to download the following files:
https://schneider-electric.box.com/s/2pwkj0c41rs2byumkyafpezkvjx1ya63
Connect to the NMC using FTP, I recommend the WinSCP client,
Upload "apc_hw05_bootmon_109.bin" to the root,
The NMC will reboot,
Reconnect via FTP,
Upload "apc_hw05_aos_696.bin" to the root,
The NMC will reboot,
Reconnect via FTP,
Upload "apc_hw05_sumx_696.bin" to the root,
The NMC will reboot for the final time

The above will help you get the firmware back on the network card, I can't help with the firmware on the UPS.

"Is there another way to force it to a factory default reset erasing all the settings and passwords ? "
Finally I was able to reset it through the serial port on Putty and the right commands.
