Problems installing PCNS on ESXi server.

Hi all,

I've been installing PCNS without issue on our Windows network, we have however two VM ESXi servers which I would like to get protected.

I've installed the vMA without issue and given it an ip. (for example 192.168.1.10)

That installed without a problem, I then downloaded PCNS for ESXi from the web and copied to a CD.

I copied it from the cd into the temp folder on my vMA and altered the permissions as outlined in the instructions.

Next I installed it. (I noticed the file name in the instructions was install.sh where in actual fact the name of the file is install_en.sh but whatever!)

This then went through its process, It asked me for the server IP of the ESXi server which I gave it (for example 192.168.1.20)

At completion is said that I should be able to access the interface using my browser at https://MYIP:6547.

Now I assumed that i'd be accessing the ESXi server (ie192.168.1.20) but nothing happens with it, eventually I tried the ip of my vMA server (192.168.1.10) and I get the PCN login screen. Odd because i'm not protecting that server am i? even so, I can't log into this screen with my details. I'm constantly getting "Invalid Username or password"

So needless to say i'm a bit confused. Where am I going wrong? Any help is appreciated

Hi, Thanks for the info, i seem to have no issue with the instructions and its all as expected. The only difference is that I don't get the config wizard when I log in on the browser. just the request for username and password.

It won't accept the password for the Net card I have but will seemingly log in using username 'apc' password 'apc'

Ok, made some progress, ran the config using apc /apc and it saw my NMC card and now seems to have established a connection. however my Vspehere servers don't appear in the NMC client list.

If i go to my VMA and do vifp listservers I see them both.

The only thing i did notice was that the VMA is install on host server ip 20 and is follwed by 21 even though the instructions say "The address of the host running the vMA should always be last in the list" is that my problem? if so how do i fix?

Also the config shows as localhost when i log in on my vma server. not the ip or machinename which seems odd....

Good day! Kindly review these guidesShutting down multiple hosts are also discussed in this pdf.[Installing PCNS 3.0.1 on ESXi-vMA 5.pdf |http://nam-en.apc.com/ci/fattach/get/1000123/]The PCNS client is installed on the host (vMA) and you need to configure the Guest Shutdown on the VMs so they shutdown gracefully when the host shuts down .[Configure PowerChute Network Shutdown virtual machines on VMware ESX and ESXi|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10380]I hope it helps!
