I have a few AIX virtual sitting on one AIX host. I have installed PCNS AIX v2.2.4 and setup that the VM shutdown first before the host.
The VM is set to shutdown after 5 mins on battery. The host is 10mins after on battery. I have installed PCNS AIX for both host and virtual.
But when shutdown command is issued, the VM and the host are triggered to shutdown at the same time. Not in sequence as I have configured.
Is there any additional settings that need to be configured on the PCNS or the host or this is a bug?
Thanks.

Hi Viostar,
Thanks for your input. But I remember that each PCNS does not have "Turn off UPS after shutdown finishes" checked.
I am not sure you are referring to this option in your reply earlier.
Anyway, I found that the hosts actually start to shutdown 1 second later than all the VMs.
During that time the VM's are still shutting down, so not sure if the option is the culprit.
Thanks.

My guess is the VM is set to shutdown the UPS (it's a checkbox in the PCNS GUI). That, in turn, causes the host to shutdown.
Some options:
- Have only the host shutdown the UPS. That means if power comes back before the host starts a UPS shutdown, you'll need to manually start the VM (assuming the VM will start when the host starts up).
- Have the host and VM trigger at the same time, but use the "script execution delay" to delay the host shutdown. This is probably what you want.
- Have only the host run PCNS and use the command script to shutdown the VM or perhaps the VM management software will automatically do this.
