Problem with silent install of Powercute Business edition.

Hi.

Im trying to install Powerchute 9.0.1 on our 2003 R2 servers.
Installing it with user interaction works fine.
When i record the installation with -r and uses the autodetect it works fine.
When I try to do it silent by using -s and the setup.iss file created from -r it doesnt even start the installation and give a ResponseResult=-3.

When I instead of using autodetect set it up manually the installation runs fine even in silent mode but then I dont get any connection with the UPS after installation.
All I get is Device Communications: Not Established

Help is needed.

This is what the setup.iss used for manually setup of commucation looks like.

ok, its going to be important to find out the exact UPS SKU. can you tell me the other options in the file besides UPSType=SMX, SMT, SURTD (Smart Signalling)? i can't look easily but i'd try any other smart signalling options you see incase this UPS is not an SMX/SMT/SURTD. the easiest way to tell whether it is or not is those types of UPS (SMX/SMT) have an LCD on the front.

It has a LCD, as I said it works fine with thoose settings when doing a ordinary installation with user interaction.
It is when i run it silent the problems start.

sorry, i have not installed business edition lately. i was not sure what setting you were using when using the GUI to install it - if it was auto-detecting and then not telling you what it chose and then maybe you were choosing this option on your own when doing the silent install. i guess you installed it once with this and then pulled the silent install config file though?

let me check on this and get back to you.

That worked fine!
Thank you.

Now my only concern is that the shutdown for Time On Battery Threshold Exceeded is not on by default.
How do I do to get that setting to on for all my servers when I install the application?

hello,

can you tell me the specific model of UPS you are dealing with from the white sticker on the UPS? You may not have that answer if what I think is happening.

I see UPSType=SMX, SMT, SURTD (Smart Signalling) in your configuration file. With these types of units, we have a bug logged (which will be fixed next revision) that prevents install if the UPS is not attached or successfully communicating with the server.

can you verify the UPS is not connected to the server at this time you are doing the install? If you can connect it at the time you push this file out, it should work fine. This also was not an issue for other, older types of UPS with the prefix SU, SUA, SUM and a few others.

Hi.

Im not at location now so I cant read the sticker.
Its a Fujitsu labeled APC called PY UPS 750VA

The UPS is connected to the server all the time.
When I do a ordinary installation with user interaction everything works fine both when I use autodetect or the manuall setting UPSType=SMX, SMT, SURTD (Smart Signalling) on COM1.

Its when i try to do the silent install it doesn´t work, with the UPS still connected.
