Hi our Smart- UPS 1500 which is about 5 yrs old had a new battery fitted in August & seemed to be ok since.... it runs our email server as well as a couple of switches & runs at around 48-50% load.
In the last few days we have had some weird power surges etc (Sping storms down here) yesterday afternoon at about 5pm we had a power surge which caused the UPS to shutdown the mail server, I checked the logs & it appears that it cycles through having insufficient runtime see below:
12/10/10 16:16:06 Sufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 16:09:06 Insufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 16:09:05 Communication Established
12/10/10 16:09:05 Monitoring Started
12/10/10 16:01:33 Monitoring Stopped
12/10/10 16:00:28 Insufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 16:00:28 Power Restored
12/10/10 16:00:23 Shutdown process started
12/10/10 16:00:23 Low Runtime Remaining
12/10/10 16:00:23 Power Failed
12/10/10 16:00:13 Insufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 16:00:11 Sufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 16:00:08 Insufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 16:00:04 Sufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 15:59:38 Insufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 15:59:35 Sufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 15:59:32 Insufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 15:58:41 Sufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 15:58:37 Insufficient Runtime Available
12/10/10 15:58:04 Sufficient Runtime Available
It shows a runtime of 5mins & battery 100% when I replaced the battery I did a calibration via the powerchute console & it ran for about 15mins before shutting down, should I do a manual calibration ie: stop the UPS service & pull the power?
Another anomaly I have noticed is that the event log times are 1hour behind, the server time is correct ie: Australian daylight savings time.
Thank you in advance
Michael

Hi,
I have some issues with this UPS. I've bought original new APC battery, because UPS indicating, that battery has 0min remaining runtime, even if shows 100% charged. I've done couple runtime calibration and nothing helps. So I've bought new batteries and is the same! I don't know what is wrong, but I spent a lot money for the new batteries and is still not working.
Any ideas?

Thanks for that, I will do a maunal recal now that I know it is the correct way to do one, also will try to track down the serial cable... I installed the unit & shoved the cable away somewhere.....
Do you have any suggestions regarding the log entries being 1 hr behind the system time? running version 7 of the powerchute software & when I check for updates it says there is none.

I can't say for sure about the logging dates, never really had to look at them closely before, but I will update to a later version & see what happens, I presumed because it found no updates it was already at the highest level, I guess I am just more sensitive to DST errors because my IPhone 4 has a bug with its alarm app not updating to DST GRRRR LOL
I will be doing a full shutdown & recal on Monday as I need to come in early & do it when nobody is in the office, we had two power outages yesterday for approx 30secs each 1 hr apart due to an accident in town which blacked out all the traffic lights in the bottom end of town for a couple of hours but it had no affect on us at all, I have disabled the software from shutting down the server for the moment so PHEW!
