I tried to install PowerChute Business Edition on a Windows Server 2008 SBS, but I get the message "Checking for the presence of a UPS". It showed that for about 30 minutes before I finally cancelled the install. Has anyone experienced this? Is there something I need to do to get it working?

Yes, I think that 940-0127 cable you have works with a handful of Smart UPS (like SUA3000) -> SUA3000 - More Images - if you look at that one, the serial port is DB-9 and then it has the RJ-45 for the USB. Confusing and inconsistent, I know.
Anyway, I have verified that the two cables (by reviewing the contents of the lit kit) this UPS ships with are 940-0625A and a 940-0273A which is described as a CBL STD FULL SPD USB 2 M WITH BEAD ROHS so I believe this is your regular USB A to B cable with a ferrite bead on it.

First thing we need to do is verify the connection between your UPS and your computer and make sure it is properly recognized within Windows device manager. If none of this is done yet, the software probably got hung at searching for your UPS (which I thought the searching would eventually time out sooner than 30 mins..).
That is how I would start looking at this issue.

Angela,
The model is: SMT750. I have it connected to the server via the serial cable. RJ45 end connected to the UPS and USB on the server side. Nothing shows up in Device Manager. I just purchased the UPS and cable so this is a first time install.

Ok. Thanks. The one issue I have now is that the cable (940-0625) that should go into the RJ-45 port (labeled UPS monitoring port on the back of the UPS) has a DB-9 serial connection on the other end.
Do you have a USB to serial adapter connected to that cable? That could then be an issue if the adapter is not installed properly (no driver, etc).

The one I have is the USB to RJ45 serial cable.

Hi greg27 - did this come with the UPS or did you just find it? Because that cable is 940-0127 (or AP9827 is the SKU for it) and is used with mostly Back UPS products. So, you need either the USB A to B cable that would go in the USB port or the cable I put a picture of.
I believe this is not working due to the incorrect cable being used.

Angela,
I didn't get it with the the UPS, but the company sent it to me after the fact. It's supposed to work with the SMT750. This is the picture of the back of my UPS:
Is there a different cable that is supposed to get plugged into the USB Monitoring Port on this unit?
Thanks.
