How about your flow control? Is it set to None or XOn/XOff? What interface cable did you use as well?

Paul,

What port settings did you use? On what UPS are you using this card? How did you install the card on that UPS?

I am using the 9606 in a su1000rm2u ups. Port settings 2400,1,n,8.

I installed the card into the smartslot, after powering off the ups, unplugging everything and dead braiing it.

I have not tried using an APC Serial to USB cable in doing this, but can I please have the part number of that cable? By any chance would it be possible for you to use another machine that has a serial port and user either a 940-0024 or 940-1524 cable?

JonPro,

The cable is a 940-0272A, I have a 940-1524D cable but i need to find a PC to use.

Would this have anything to do with the other issue that I have posted on here with regards to UPS losing communication with the PC?

Paul,

I downloaded the latest driver of that cable first and installed it on one of our PC. After plugging the cable it created COM3 on my device manager. I stopped the native UPS service on Windows and launched HyperTerminal and set the following settings 2400, 8, None, 1 and None for flow control. Once I have the Terminal window I pressed enter twice and got the username prompt, typed the username and password and did not receive any special characters like yours.

What's the link of the thread on your other problem?

JonPro

I have updated the drivers for the usb>serial cable from the prolific site. the adapter does install ok, as i am able to communicate with the ups without the ap9606 installed via the powerchute software

The link to my other thread https://community.se.com/t5/APC-UPS-for-Home-and-Office-Forum/bd-p/home-office-forum

I have linked the UPS to a serial port on another pc and everything seems to talk OK., i have been able to hyperterminal into the ap9606, so there must be an issue with the USB>Serial cable for this sort of thing.

I have now set the IP Address details, but cannot see it on the network. I have tried to ping my network from the AP9606 card and it times out, this also applies when pinging the UPS from the PC.

Status LED is Green, there is no activity on the link - RX/TX led. Do I need to use a ethernet crossover cable from the switch to the AP9606?

I have tried a number of different ethernet cables and I get the same problem.

JonPro,

While having a look at the connfiguration in the AP9606, i noticed that it was configured for a AP9212 MasterSwitch. I have managed to re-flash and update the card with the latest AOS326b.bin and sumx326a.bin files. The AP9606 is now saying that it is configured for Smart-UPS APP.

I have managed to configure static IP's for this card, including the gateway address

Unfortunately I have a green status light, but no Link - RX/TX lights, I have plugged a crossover cable into my laptop, the laptop has seen this on a 10Mb connection, the laptop is setup for auto detect on the network speed. A normal cable does not register a connection to the laptop.

Any idea's from anyone would be very grateful. ๐Ÿ™‚

Paul

Paul,

If you are going to connect a computer into the AP9606 you need to use a crossover cable. Using a crossover cable, did the Link LED lit up? Also after flashing the card with the correct firmware, are you still getting those characters on the username and password prompt?

JonPro,

I have tried both types of cable, the crossover cable into the PC shows up as connected with a 10Mb connection, the link led does not flash at all, I have not tried connecting with the USB cable since flashing the card

Paul,

I am sorry to hear about that. If you would like network manageability, SNMP capability and graceful shutdown you can purchase our newer network management cards --- [http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=98]
