Powershute and SMC1000-2i

This was originally posted on APC forums on 7/7/2019

Hi,

I 've got an SMC1000-2i and I would need to able to add some delay when the electricity is back online. ( like to switch on the servers after 10 min that the electricity is back ) at the moment I'am writting this post, I cannot find it anymore ????

I'll try to connect powershute on your website and plug with the USB  cable, but the software says that it cannot connect to the SMC.

Is there the right way to do it ?

I don't have any network card on it..

How can I increase this value ?

Thanks in advance

BR, Stéphane

Hi,

I am not familiar with NUT but impression is no. To configure a SMC to power on when the UPS has a minimum runtime you need to do so through software. PowerChute Business Edition version 10.x offers the ability.

The screenshot below is from PCBE 10.0.1 connected to SMC1500C

If you need a Smart-UPS that can be configured to power on when the UPS has a minimum runtime without using software you should look at a SMT Smart-UPS. The SMT has configurable outlet via the LCD panel.

Hello,

The SMC Smart-UPS is compatible with PowerChute Business Edition. You should connect the UPS back to the system and then run the PowerChute Business Edition installer.

PowerChute Business Edition can be download from this link. https://www.apc.com/us/en/tools/download/software_comp.cfm?sw_sku=SFPCBE1001

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I've downloaded the software and I've plugged via the USB, to laptop to the SMC1000-2i and while installing powerchute, the software is saying that there is no UPS attached ! ( And I can see a kind of battery on the "latptop / USB connections"

Am I doing something completely stupid ??

Thanks and regards,

Hi,

What OS is the laptop running? If Windows please review Schneider Electric FAQ FA310907 and FA283181

Hi,

Thanks for you reply. In fact, just to come back on the principe I am looking for.... AT the end, I wish to make sure that when the electricity comes back ( after a long cut...), to deliver the power to the servers after 10min or 20 min.. I planned to use the servers running Linux.. with NUT

And NUT offer this ( according to the config file ) I guess this is the instruction WAKEUP 600 for instance..

But, if you have an electricty cut...Servers are off.. If you are using PowerChute or NUT, How the server will know that it has to start after 600s ? If the software doesn't write INTO the UPS, how it knows this instruction, with NO servers started yet ?????

If you can enlight me, that will be great.. 🙂 Maybe that will help me to search in the right direction....

Thanks and regards,

Stéphane

Hi,

Is there anybody who can explain to me how to make sure..that the UPS can deliver power to the servers, after  X minute of return power ?

This will avoid consequences of glitches.... and I don't want to get problems if a server start booting and suddently, another electricity cut arrives.. How this can be handle by software c???? when the UPS is down, no servers are running of course and a software cannot give this instruction to the UPS ?

How can I do that ?

Does PowerChute "write" on the UPS this instruction ??

Thanks for your help
