I cannot find installation compatibility info anywhere - does this even run on a Windows PC or just a server?? Error message: "startservicecontroldispatcherfail" The UPS it came with is the APC 750VA Smart-UPS. After the install, it never put an icon on the desktop, never had a screen to start the program, and the pbeagent.exe file had no icon but I tried running it anyway and got the error. Please let me know if I need different software or how to get this to run correctly. Thanks Bill

Hi,
PowerChute Business Edition runs as a service on Windows. It does not put an icon on the desktop however it will put an entry in the start menu.
Have you check to see if the APB PBE Agent service is running? To do so open the control panel and go to Administrative Tools, Services. There you should see APC PBE Agent The status should be started. If not started right click on the service and select start. If the service starts you can access PowerChute via a web browser on the system. Go the https://127.0.0.1:6547. You could also go to the start menu and select PowerChute to launch the web interface.
If the service does not start due to the error posted that indicates there is a conflict or corruption in the system preventing the service from starting.

Thank you so much! It was already started and going to the URL worked fine for configuration.
The other question I have is when configuring Powerchute, can you tell me what the self-test involves? I assume it will not be rebooting the computer or shutting it down - but just making sure. Will a balloon come up or any messages saying it's doing it and what is it testing? Thanks again, Bill

When a self-test runs the UPS switches to battery output to verify it can sustain the load. The test will be logged in the PowerChute event log and if it fails the replace battery LED will illuminate. It will not reboot or shut down the computer.
