Hello,
We have 20 of the Back-UPS NS 1250 LCD UPS's in our office and I'm wondering if there is a way to get them to send us email notifications when power is lost. I know this is a function of the PowerChute Business, but not in the Personal edition.
Is there a way around this? We really need this feature!
Thanks,
Nate

is this particular scenario, there is a solution even though I personally dont recommend it.
if you obtain a RJ-45 to serial cable (APC Part # 940-0128), you can monitor the Back UPS via powerchute business edition. the problem with this is that you also loose a lot of functionality. business edition can only monitor the Back UPS in "simple signaling." This means, it will basically only tell you whether the UPS is "online" or "on battery." You will still get a graceful shutdown and configure the email but you lose the ability to see the runtime, voltages, and any other useful information like that. you wont be able to change any settings on the UPS or initiate any commands because of the simple signaling.
If you go this route, you will need to configure your settings and then to make sure communication is working properly, you'd need to unplug the UPS from the wall, and refresh the webpage of powerchute business edition to make sure the status changes to "on battery." simple signaling is very simple obviously so that is what it will take to test it.
let us know if you have any questions on that.
