We are using several APC 3000 UPS's with Network Management Cards (Ethernet). One of our servers is located in the DMZ.
What port needs to be opened to allow the server client software to talk to the NMC.?
Thanks

Hey Starlog, did you ever get this to work? I might need to set up my servers in a similar way and was hoping someone else was successful before I started my set up.

These are the only ports that are used for communication between the NMC and the PCNS software. If they are opened the communication should work.

Hey Guys, PCNS won't work over a DMZ if you're using Network Address Translation (NAT). Part of the data packet has the IP that NAT assigns. Part of the actual data sent has the card's real IP. When PCNS sees 2 IPs, it gets confused. It won't work. The only way around this would be to add a second card to the UPS. One in the DMZ and the other in your internal network. On a Smart-UPS 3000, that would require an AP9600 as well as another web management card.

I've seen issues with PCNS and NAT a number of times. Normally the NAT is being done between the DMZ and the internal network. This is done because people outside your network have access to systems in the DMZ and NAT is another layer of protection from that network to your more important internal network.

Would the servers in the DMZ always have a public address? I was under the impression the other devices in the internal network would communicate to the servers in the DMZ via an internal IP address. The servers in the DMZ would use a public IP when communicating to the outside world. So when outside world goes to send an email to the company or hit their web server they would use the public ip which would get NAT'd to the internal IP of the respective server, email, web etc. If that is true then there wouldn't be any NAT involved when communicating from internal network to DMZ. The NAT would be setup for the internal IP of the server in the DMZ to a public IP for the outside world to use on the router/firewall. I don't know if anyone else has had any experience with that or comments??
