PowerChute Network Shutdown on OS X 10.6.8 Server -- SOLVED

I have an APC SmartUPS RT 3000. I have the Network Management Card successfully installed and operating. I am attempting to install "PowerChute Network Shutdown v3.0.1" on my OS X 10.6.8 Server. I am unsuccessful thus far. I get to this screen (see below) and then the installer dies. I cannot connect to PCNS via a browser. By all accounts I do not see the necessary files. I do not see any files in /Library/StartupItems/comapcpcns. According to the manual, I can manually start the service by sudo /Library/StartupItems/comapcpcns/comapcpcns start. Kinda hard to do when the file doesn't exist.

TIA.

-Matt

I have a few questions:

• Are you installing this remotely in any way or physically with the server?
• Verify the path that PCNS is being installed to
• Provide the pcnsinst.log which would be in the folder wherever you downloaded PCNS to and launched it from (where ever install.cmd is)
• Run the uninstaller and report back if it completes without error

I looked over this log file. I saw a permission problem. I then uninstalled and attempted to re-install as "root". Well sure enough, that did it. Installation was successful as root user. PCNS is running.

I wish the documents would mention "root" user needs to perform the installation.

I hope this helps someone else out in the future.

Best,

Matt
