I am trying to install PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0.2 on a Windows Vista computer. The installation hangs up on the destination folder screen and won't complete. I have followed all the procedures in FA167118 and FA159949 but no luck. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

After reviewing the log it looks like the issue described in Kbase FA167118. Since you wrote that you have already reviewed that document the only suggestion I have would be to roll the OS back to a known good date and run the installer again. If that still does not resolve the issue you could install PCPE 2.2 or use Native Power Options as described in the PDF attached to Kbase FA159653.

I was trying to find the instructions on how to do a verbose install but I can't find them.
Anyway, as outlined in this thread-> PowerChute Personal 3.0.1 install fails on Windows 7 64bit Finnish do you see any files created anywhere on the system where there is an error log that we can go ahead and look at?
My only other thought beyond those kbases is the destination folder you're choosing is not allowing the installer to write to it. Have you tried different destination folders?

I know its Vista but I thought it might be similar in this regard. Let me get back to you when I track down these other instructions I was looking for.

I tried installing to another folder, but it still hangs the same way. I don't get any error indication; the installation just hangs up on the destination file screen. Where would I look for an error log? This is a Vista system, not Windows 7.
Thanks.

Ok, here we go:
1. Trigger the 3.0.2 installation process by executing (double clicking) PCPE_Setup.exe (or I think maybe PCPEInstaller.exe)
2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\
3. Copy the PCPE_3.0.1.msi file to the desktop
4. Open a command prompt as Administrator
5. Change directory to Desktop
6. Run the command msiexec /i PCPE_3.0.1.msi /l*vx install.txt (letter L then *vx)
7. The installer UI will be launched again
8. Run the normal installation steps
9. Post to us the log file "install.txt" for analysis that is created.

Thanks. All I can personally see is where you cancel it after it hangs. Because of the holiday weekend here in the US and all of us being out, I will have to get back to you on Monday since I cannot see the issue myself right now.
