PowerChute Business edition, Serial Cable, Win XP

I have a Smart-UPS 1000, su10001 NET, connected with a serial cable, 940-0024, to a computer running Windows XP, SP3.

I had PowerChute Business Edition installed and that worked fine until recently when it stopped for no apparent reason. I've no idea what version of PowerChute that was as I un-installed with a view to re-installing.

Unfortunately, the installation fails at the USB frame ....I don't have the 0271A cable and there's no option for a serial connection. In any case it worked previously.

I dug out the original PowerChute installation disk that was supplied with the UPS and the NT installation runs fine, albeit on XP, but I'd prefer to have the data that was logged previously with the Business Edition.

I'm specifically interested in monitoring disturbances, spikes and sags etc., but reading the forms it might appear these options are no longer included in the later edition...which in any case is unlikely to run under XP.

So the big question now is the way forward?

What version of PowerChute Business Edition will run under XP and is there any point in spending money on the serial to USB cable

Hi,

A Smart-UPS su1000 is not compatible with USB so there is not need to purchase a converter. The proper serial cable is part number 940-0024. If your computer does not have a serial port then you would need a USB to Serial converter to connect to the 940-0024 cable.

As for Windows XP we ended development with the release of PCBE 9.1.1 for XP Pro SP3. We also offered PCBE 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.1 for XP Pro with SP 2 or 3. For all non Pro versions of XP development ended with PCBE 7.5.

NOTE: Support for XP and PowerChute end 1 year after Microsoft concluded support in 2014.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using the serial cable 940-0024 and that's working fine with the original PowerChute installation that came with the UPS. Unfortunately that version does not give me any information on sags, spikes etc.

I'm running XP Pro SP3, so from what you're saying, I need to download and install PCBE 9.1.1 but will that work with a serial cable, or will it require 940-0272A serial to USB cable?

I'm more than happy to buy that cable, but I'd be happier if you could confirm that it'll work; I already have a large box full of assorted cables which I don't want to be adding to.

Assuming it'll work, will I be able to see the info I'm looking for?

Best regards,

Ian

PS

I'm more than happy to soldier on with XP PRO for general purposes; I have a laptop with W10 and I hate it with a passion! It sucks.......

Hi,

You only need the 940-0024 cable to establish serial comm with the SU1000.

Hi Bill,

Unless I'm missing something, I'm struggling to find a download of PCBE 9.1.1

Can you give me a link please?
